Selon les informations de Libération online, le bus, qui est entré en collision avec un camion frigorifique à hauteur de Alou Kagne, provenait de Dakar. Il était en partance pour Saint-Louis. Les premiers éléments de l'enquête révèlent que le chauffeur du camion, venu de Rosso, a tenté de doubler en troisième position avant de faire face au bus qui a tenté de l'éviter. En plus des 16 morts, une source proche de l'enquête fait état d'au moins 30 blessés dont certains dans un état très grave.
